Choose an area you would like to map, preferably a place with a main road that has plenty of arterial roads coming off it. Draw the main road as a tree trunk.

Consider where to place a cartouche on your design. I set mine underneath the tree, in its roots.

Draw the arterial roads as boughs shooting off from the main trunk. Try to place each road/bough in the correct geographical position in relation to the others. Use your own hand lettering to label all the streets.
